Women's Duchess Satin Tudor Corset open fronted historical Costume and Re-enactment Undergarments Bodies and Stays
Shape and form has been a common theme through out history with each century bring new ideals of what was fashionable and new ways in which to shape clothing to achieve them. The Tudor era brung about the fashion of under corsets to create the conical shaping of the bodies of the dress.
 
The corset (or bodies as was referred to during the Tudor era) is heavily boned in consecutive rows along the front panel used to flatten the bust and keeper straighter silhouette rather than curve at the bust. There are channels of boning at the back of the corset these are not as many as at the front as they allow the user support in the corset shape without constricting movement too heavily. We use Synthetic Whale bone, which is strong as well as moulds to the body when worn to give support, as its the closest thing to the whale bones used at the time. 
Eyelets are set at the back and front of the corset and provided with ribbon to lace them. 
We use 4 layers of fabric sandwiched together to create the boning channels. The front layer is Duchess Poly Satin in a choice of Colours, then the two inner layers are of a stiffened calico used to help provide the structure. The last layer is the lining which is made of the soft cotton for comfort.
The shoulder straps are tied at the back and front to adjust to the wear and made from the same fabrics as the rest of the corset.
 
These corsets are hand made and can take between 2-4 weeks to create so please keep in mind the making time (if you are in need of it sooner message and i will see what i can do)
